Avoidable
deaths
A trawl though Google
reveals that there are a number of avoidable deaths in
Sheltered Housing.
People have collapsed on the floor of their flat unable to
reach a pull cord, and even though some do own
a alert pendant they were not wearing it at the time.
It must be recalled here that the average age of residents
of Sheltered Housing is at the top end of the scale of life
expectancy . Many people of this age face pain, frailty,
unsteadiness, breathlessness, etc. on a day to day basis.
For a number there is also mental confusion . Add too,
people in this age group very often do not wish to cause a
fuss ! Given the outlined circumstances at what point,
precisely, are they to activate their emergency alarm !
There have been cases where people have lain dead, dying,
or in a serious medical condition for several days before
they have been found. There are several recorded cases
where this has occurred when the Warden service had lacked
anticipated continuity. Google does not record every case,
there are probably many such events that do not reach the
local newspapers, hence they are invisible to Google's
web-crawlers.
Cont'd from the Home page
Derby: A coroner has criticised a
social landlord because a sheltered housing resident fell
and died after her daily support visits were reduced to
once a month.
The pensioner is thought to have been lying on her floor
for several days before being spotted by a neighbour
walking past.
Bristol: Man lay dead
for weeks until neighbours complained about the smell
coming from his flat.
I won't bother you with all
the grusome details of other cases, suffice to say there
are enough of such incidents to be found and of great
concern
